Financial and Energy Coach

Vermont’s first Financial and Energy Coaching Initiative has launched! SEVCA (Southeastern Vermont Community Action), serving the residents of Windham and Windsor counties, is seeking 1 trailblazing full-time Coach to engage Vermonters living with low and moderate incomes in reducing their climate impact while improving their financial well-being. The ideal candidate will have a keen interest in personal finance and unlocking the puzzle of the programs, services, credits, and rebates that will help clients transition to cleaner, more efficient energy sources. Coaches will provide 1:1 counseling and workshops to residents in SEVCA’s service area. Resource Recovery Navigator, Springfield

Position Type: Full Time, benefited position

SEVCA is currently seeking a Resource Recovery Navigator to provide emergency and non-emergency assistance to our low-income clients in the Westminster – Springfield area. This individual will assess clients’ needs and help resolve crisis situations by providing application assistance, coordinating community services, providing information, referrals and advocacy. The Resource Recovery Navigator helps clients understand their options and access the services that they need.

The qualified candidate must be able to establish and maintain positive and respectful relationships with clients, community resources and other agencies. She/he must possess excellent organization, communication and problem solving skills. Experience in the Human Services field is preferred. Teacher Associates are responsible for being familiar with Head Start Performance Standards, NAEYC Standards, Vermont Early Learning Standards, and State of Vermont Early Childhood Program Licensing Regulations, and ensuring they are being met in the classroom. Teacher Associates are part of a team designed to provide all children with a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment. The teacher associate is part of a team that meets regularly. This position requires a close collaborative working relationship with the Lead Teacher, Teacher Assistant parents and other center staff. Experience using The Creative Curriculum, Second Step Curriculum, and Teaching Strategies GOLD Assessment System are a distinct advantage.

Home Repair Program Coordinator

Coordinate, and possibly carry out, home repairs for low-income households to address health, safety, energy waste, accessibility, and other needs. Responsibilities include client intake & enrollment, spec writing, awarding bids / contracts, document prep, contractor supervision, QC, recordkeeping / reporting, and collaboration. Will also ideally include hands-on repair work for additional hours for someone with appropriate skills & experience. Requires 5 yrs construction-related exp, including hands-on work, spec writing, cost estimating & contracting; knowledge of building codes / regs; good communication, organizational, writing & computer skills; ability to relate to low-income clients. 24-40 hrs/wk, depending on whether doing direct repairs.

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)

SEVCA is now recruiting volunteers to provide tax preparation services for the 2021 tax filing season through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. This program assists families to claim the tax credits and refunds available to them. Don’t know that much about taxes? Don’t worry — you’ll receive training from an instructor plus IRS online courses. We are looking for individuals who are willing and able to commit at least 3 and up to as many hours as you want per week from December through – April 15, 2022.   Although prior tax preparation experience is not required, a desire to assist neighbors in need is essential.
