ABOUT US

The Windham Workforce Investment Board is a state-sponsored, community-driven group dedicated to addressing the region’s critical workforce challenges. The Windham WIB provides a forum for convening employers, service providers, and community leaders to:

  1. Identify employment and training needs;
  2. Plan, promote, and deliver effective solutions; and
  3. Learn about and secure available resources.

The WIB is governed by a volunteer Executive Committee and aided by a coordinator. The WIB strives to help employers and partner with service providers.

The WIB has engaged a growing list of businesses, economic and community development groups, education and training institutions, recruiting and placement agencies, towns, and public officials across Windham County.

WHAT’S NEW

  • Promoting WorkKeys as an effective recruitment, retention, and development tool for new hires and incumbent workers. The WIB is convening meetings with local employers, placement agencies, and service providers to spur wider use of WorkKeys in support of employment and training decisions. To learn more, review WIB presentation and WorkKeys website.
  • Assessing local hiring and skill needs. In June 2011, the WIB conducted an online survey of local employers to learn more about their employment outlook and challenges in building a qualified workforce. More than half of Windham-area employers responding to the survey say they plan to hire over the next year. However, about half of respondents also reported that they have struggled in the past to find workers capable of handling available jobs. The WIB also has prepared a comprehensive report on employment conditions, combining data from the survey and government and business sources.
