SEVCA 7TH ANNUAL “CHIPPING AWAY AT POVERTY”
BENEFIT GOLF TOURNAMENT OUTSHINES PREVIOUS EVENTS IN SPITE OF RAIN
WESTMINSTER – On June 5th, Southeastern Vermont Community Action (SEVCA) held
its 7th Annual “Chipping Away at Poverty” Benefit Golf Tournament at the Crown
Point Country Club in Springfield. With 20 teams and 51 sponsors / donors, it
was an outstanding day for all who participated, and especially for the families
and individuals who will benefit from the more than $...,000 that was raised to
support programs serving low income people in Windham and Windsor counties.
Friendly but spirited competition between local businesses, weatherization
vendors, social service agencies, and other SEVCA friends and supporters created
a lively atmosphere for event. A Hole-In-One Contest sponsored by Durand Toyota
Ford allowed participants the opportunity to win a new 2009 Toyota Corolla. The
day’s excitement was enhanced by a new competition this year, a Hole-In-One
50-foot Putting Contest. Amateur golfer Sheldon Scott of Whitney Blake won the
top $1,000 prize by sinking the hole-in-one putt, a feat he had also achieved
earlier in the day in the qualifying putting rounds. Players also enjoyed
participating in a 50/50 raffle and a ‘Vegas Hole’ competition.
