SEVCA “CHIPPING
AWAY AT POVERTY” WITH 7TH ANNUAL
GOLF TOURNAMENT
WESTMINSTER – Southeastern
Vermont Community Action’s (SEVCA’s) 2008 Benefit Golf Tournament is
being held on Thursday, June 5th, at the Crown Point Country Club in
Springfield, with registration starting at 8:00 A.M and tee time at
9:00. This year the theme is again “Chipping Away at Poverty,”
reflecting the work SEVCA does day after day to help people cope
with the hardships of poverty and free them from that vicious cycle.
The proceeds from this event are essential to SEVCA’s ability to
resolve the diverse issues facing its clients, according to
Executive Director Steve Geller. “That has become especially
critical in light of the soaring cost of fuel, housing, food and
other basic needs over the past few years,” Geller said. “We need
these funds to make sure families have heat, keep from being
evicted, put food on their table or resolve other crises, enable the
healthy development of their children, help start a business to
allow them to achieve financial stability, and much more.”
Businesses and individuals can participate by becoming a sponsor,
playing in the tournament and/or sponsoring a golfer or a foursome.
All sponsorships are tax-deductible, as are the portion of the
player registration fees over the actual costs. Sponsors will
receive recognition in the program and at the luncheon, signs at the
event, and in local newspapers and on SEVCA’s website. Players will
get a fun day of golf on a first-class course. And everyone will
have the satisfaction of contributing to the health, well-being and
quality of life for some of the most vulnerable members of our
community.
To make it even more enticing, there are great prizes, including:
1st, 2nd & 3rd place teams, Longest Drive and Closest to the Pin for
men and women, and 4 fabulous Hole-in-One prizes including a
Vacation Cruise, a set of Golf Irons, a $500 Pro Shop Gift
Certificate, and a brand new, fuel efficient (40 mpg) 2009 Toyota
Corolla from Durand Ford Toyota of Westminster.
There are only a limited number of sponsorships and player slots
remaining, so it will be first come, first served. Call SEVCA at
(800) 464-9951 or send an email to lbrooks@sevca.org to request
sponsorship and/or registration forms or to get more information.
